Plot
A girl wrongfully sentenced to prison for murder is forced to escape with four other inmates. Their flight brings them into contact with a variety of people with sometimes deadly results, ultimately leading to a violent conclusion.
'Wood'-ness
This film is a sort of book-end to The Violent Years. It features similar characters and 'so what' attitude of the girls. Of course, this has a lot more sex. The dialogue (especially that of the hippies) has a very strong 'Wood' flavor to it.
Best Line
"Let me tell you something, honey. There's only two things worthwhile for a girl, and that's men and money." - Rene Bond

5 LOOSE WOMEN
While this has been posited as the original title for Fugitive Girls, the dearth of materials bearing this title indicates a limited release at best. There has never been a video release under this title.
HOT ON THE TRAIL
Long incorrectly identified by the Internet Movie Database as Hot On Their Trail (and hence in many Ed filmographies), this is the correct alternate title.

WOMEN'S PENITENTIARY VIII
In the early eighties MCM Entertainment slapped the title "Women's Penitentiary" on a number of women in prison movies for which they had the rights. Fugitive Girls was one of them.
| All credits have been removed, with the opening titles replaced with "Women’s Penitentiary VIII" and any closing credits removed entirely. There is no reference to the actual stars of the movie anywhere. The box front reads as follows:
MCM ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS
WOMEN'S PENITENTIARY VIII
starring SUSANNE CARVALNO * LAURA GEMSER * SANDRA CURRIE
ANNA KAREN * JOHN STONE * WILLIAM REDGRAVE
directed by BOB GREEN
None of these people have anything to do with this film. This is, in fact, a version of Fugitive Girls.
Do not be put off by the lack of reference to Ed. |
